On behalf of the staff at Sterling Elementary School, I am happy to welcome you to the 2018-19 school year! We are looking forward to a home-school partnership which will ensure our children achieve their highest potential.
We are excited to introduce two initiatives adopted to increase the communication and trust between families and schools. The first is the Parent-Teacher Home Visit Project. This project encourages teachers to meet with parents in their homes (or another place of the parent’s choosing). The second is Academic Parent Teacher Teams. This is a model of parent-teacher conferences that focuses on student achievement, goals and providing resources for parents to help achieve those goals in the home setting. Studies of successful home visit projects and APTT meeting models have documented many benefits including increasing parental involvement, identifying common goals for students, improved attendance, better communication between home and school and higher test scores.
You will find valuable information in our handbook found on our school website including a daily schedule, dates for APTT meetings, and school policies.
We invite you to be involved in school activities and opportunities to volunteer in the classroom. A few of those opportunities include:
The Sterling Elementary School staff and I feel privileged to be a part of this school family. We thank you for your support and look forward to seeing you.
